Playgroups
Children
are divided into age-appropriate play groups that meet in the homes of
the play group members on a rotating basis. There is typically a
maximum of 6 children per playgroup. Siblings are welcome. Each group
determines how frequently they meet, from once a month to once a week.
Our Playgroup Coordinator is responsible for placing new members'
children into age-appropriate playgroups.
Park Dates
The Activity Coordinators set up several park dates each month. We meet
at area parks for play time and often lunch. Some park dates are
scheduled in the morning and others in the afternoon to accommodate
various schedules. If inclement weather is
expected, usually an alternate (indoor) location is selected so we can
still meet to play.
Special Events
Each
month, various special events are scheduled. These are often visits to
kid-focused area attractions such as the Detroit Zoo, the Detroit
Science Center and the Kensington Farm Center to name a few. We also
frequent the local community pools, indoor playgrounds and other
kid-friendly venues.
Holiday Parties
Each year we schedule special seasonal events. These include a Spring Egg Hunt, a Fall Festival, visits with Santa, etc.
Family Outings
These
events are scheduled for weekends or evenings when the whole family can
come out and have fun together. We have an annual Ice Cream Social and
attend many area fairs and local park events.
Moms Night Out
Each
month we schedule a Moms Night Out (MNO). Previous MNO events include movie
nights, cooking demonstrations and dinner out, among other fun
activities. We also have an annual Holiday Shopping Trip. This event
is open to all moms in the club.
Monthly Business Meetings
We schedule monthly business meetings to discuss various topics related to
the Commerce/Walled Lake Area Moms Club. Each month, moms take turns providing a fun activity or
craft project for the kids to participate in while the adults attend to club business. The first 15 minutes of the meeting allows
time for drinks and snacks, some social time and an opportunity to meet
prospective members. A recap of prior months' activities are shared
with the group from the respective committee chair. New business such
as status of finances, the calendar of events and service projects, and
other volunteer opportunities are discussed with the members. We
occasionally have guest speakers to discuss topics that are pertinent
to our group. The meeting is closed by open discussion and final
announcements from the members.
